Howdy. I'm Michael Donaldson.
I'm a constultant for the music industry, working with emerging artists and labels. I also manage a label of my own, named 8D Industries, and publish + license music under 8DSync. Sometimes I'm a Q-Burns Abstract Message. But mostly I'm just trying to keep these damn cats out of my office.
I like to send postcards to my friends, and if you'd like I'll send one to you.
Oh, and here's what I'm working on now.
I have strong opinions about music.
Sure, I will be happy to rattle off endless recommendations of obscure bands and point you to my meticulously curated Spotify playlists. But my sharpest opinions are reserved for the music industry.
I am intimately invested in how recording artists and bands administer their song rights, market themselves, and grow their careers. And it’s no surprise; since my first job as a teenage clerk in a mall music store I’ve managed record labels, worked in music publicity, launched a song licensing and publishing company, and spent over a decade touring the world as a major label recording artist.
Now I work primarily as a consultant for artists and labels seeking to navigate the ever-changing 21st-century music landscape. I also manage the ‘exploratory’ record label 8D Industries, publish and license a diverse song catalog with 8DSync, and sometimes find the time to create music of my own.
I often ponder the future of music while slowly gliding on a paddle board across Orlando’s Lake Holden.
